Entering Form I-9 in E-Verify (New Hires)

 

All employers in the United States are required to complete Form I-9 no later than the third business day after the respective employee’s or enrolled federal contractor’s hire date and keep a record of Form I-9 on file.  This requirement does NOT change for employers enrolled in E-Verify.

 

Many E-Verify employers voluntarily choose to take the additional step of verifying that their employees' Form I-9 information matches government records, thereby ensuring a legal workforce.

 

The hire date (also referred to as the date on which the employee began employment) is defined as the first day of employment in exchange for wages or other remuneration.
