Through the ExponentHR website, employees are able to enroll in your organization's benefit plans during the Open Enrollment or New Hire Enrollment period (based on employee eligibility). As the plan year progresses, employees are able to use the report Life Events functionality to update benefit elections for life changing events such as marriage or birth of a child. While these changes are recorded in the ExponentHR system, your organization's benefit carriers need to also become aware of such enrollment elections and changes.
These election changes may optionally be communicated to the benefit carriers via an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) process where ExponentHR will systematically generate a carrier specific file that is either sent directly to the carrier or to your organization (to be reviewed and manually uploaded to the carrier). Once received by the respective benefit carrier, the enrollment information is then updated in the carrier's system so that coverage can effectively be administered and any enrollment documentation (such as benefit cards) can be provided to the respective employee.
